The Hotel National (60 rooms and 103 beds) is in a central yet quiet location, surrounded by a small park in Davos Platz. It is only a few steps away from the Promenade, Davos's elegant shopping street. From there, the free local buses run every few minutes. It is easy to reach the skiing or hiking areas using public transport. The Conference Centre is also within easy walking distance (10-15 minutes). The famous Panoramaweg mountain footpath passes close to the hotel and the Schatzalp funicular railway up to Thomas Mann's Zauberberg is only a few minutes' walk away.
 
Davos is situated in the Landwasser valley at 1560 metres above sea level and, with about 13,000 inhabitants, is not only the highest town in Europe, but also one of the regions of the Alps where the snowfall is most reliable. For winter sports fans, there are not only four large skiing areas but also a skating rink, 3 sledging runs, fantastic winter footpaths and numerous cross-country skiing tracks to choose from. In summer, Davos is a Mecca for hikers, mountain bikers, golfers and tennis players.
